The Six of Swords is the passage toward calmer waters: moving away from turbulence toward a more peaceful future. It's not a joyful ending but a necessary relief — a transition that may hurt, yet is made from reason, with an inner certainty that it's for the best.

The Six of Swords shows you that you need to make a change, to move through a transition — perhaps a hard one — that follows from your own choices. You know it's for the best, and that to gain something you have to give something up. Letting go is always difficult, but this change isn't sudden: it comes after a long ripening, with real preparation before you set out. Reason and logic win out over emotion, and it's precisely that analytical, level-headed state that will help you make the crossing in the best way possible. Sometimes there's no choice but to leave problems or people behind; that's not cowardice but intelligence, once you've tried everything. It can also foretell an actual journey, a trip across water, or a move.
- Love
- A need to change the scenery: a trip, a different outing, stirring up the stagnant waters. On its own it doesn't signal a breakup. If you're looking for love, break out of your routines; there may be a long-distance love.
- Work
- You may be leaving a job that no longer works; something in you is pushing you toward that new path with the certainty that it's right. Work trips are possible.
- Money
- It can go either way: if you were doing well, a fresh tide of abundance; if not, better to let go and try something new, even in a different field or place.
- Health
- You need a change of scene, perhaps a good vacation to restore your spirit. If a treatment isn't making progress, look for another professional or place. A good time to drop unhealthy habits.
- Spirituality
- Questions you'd been dodging may surface in your awareness, stirred by travel or contact with other cultures. Pay attention to your dreams.
Reversed, the card shows that you want to move forward and leave the past behind, but you keep hitting obstacles that make it hard and slow it down. The problem isn't you — it's external things and unresolved matters. The harder you try to leave the past, the more it digs in and follows you, because you're running from it with loose ends still trailing: you physically get away, yet the situation rides along in your head. It can also point to doubts that stop you from starting — you make it to the shore but never step into the boat — or a fierce resistance to a forced change you know is inevitable. Before you can move on, you have to drop the ballast.
- Love
- It's no time to hold on to what isn't good for you, but get ready to truly let go. If you carry your old baggage into a new relationship, it won't thrive. Get over the last one before you go looking.
- Work
- Strong resistance to changing positions even when the move is favorable. You could make simple mistakes with serious consequences; back up your paperwork. If you're job-hunting, look into working for yourself.
- Money
- Delays and hold-ups; it's not the time for risks, investments, or spending. A feeling of scarcity. If you need help, drop the pride and ask for it.
- Health
- A lot of imbalance and disorganization, not necessarily illness: you eat badly, sleep too little, and the worries turn into stress that the body eventually charges you for.
- Spirituality
- You feel a great emptiness and a lack of interest in anything spiritual, convinced your intuition failed you. Relax and empty your mind; something new will grow, slowly and in stages.
