The Tower

The Tower

Arcana
Major
Number
16

The Tower is one of the most jarring cards in the deck: a bolt of lightning topples in an instant what looked solid. It stands for the sudden collapse of structures built on false foundations, a revelation that shakes everything loose. It hurts, but it frees you and, in the long run, clears the way for a new life.

Upright

The Tower brings disasters that, paradoxically, can turn out positive: inner upheaval, sudden change, and revelations. It usually points to a situation that can't hold any longer and simply has to change for your own good, a jolt that forces you to throw out what no longer serves you. In extreme cases it can mean a divorce, a firing, or financial ruin, but it always leaves a lesson that ends up benefiting you. It also warns about the walls and ego you protect yourself with: what you're hiding can come to light and leave you exposed, even if it proves healing in the end.

Love
It often points to endings, breakups, or separations, or at least a stretch of serious doubt and questioning. From that reckoning there are only two ways out: a breakup or a strengthened relationship; watch for interference from others, family above all.
Work
A time for extreme caution: don't make mistakes or get drawn into conflicts. It can signal a job change, whether from your own rethinking or a sudden layoff.
Money
This is no time for risky bets or games of chance; guard your savings as much as you can. Hold off on partnerships or new ventures, settle your debts, and collect what you're owed.
Health
Take real care with stress and nerves, which can hit a critical point, almost the edge of collapse. Try relaxation therapies, yoga, and meditation to get your balance back.
Spirituality
Keep a positive attitude; new interpretations may hit you all at once. Remember that everything is a cycle of light and dark: all things arrive, pass, and change.
Reversed

The Tower reversed is much like the upright, only less drastic. The deep changes are still coming; you're just delaying them out of fear or panic, kidding yourself to put off the inevitable. You may sense that this change will be positive and necessary, yet you struggle to let it happen. Because you see it coming, you'll be more prepared when it lands, and the shock of surprise will be far smaller.

Love
It can also point to breakups and turbulent times, but far less severe ones. Things can still improve with communication and honest talk; this isn't the best moment to start a romance.
Work
Minor complications, though the doubts linger and there may be anger or discouragement. There's less risk of losing your job; more likely you'd leave it yourself over your own second thoughts.
Money
Unexpected, hefty expenses may crop up around family, children, or home. It's still no time for investments: save, keep spending in check, and plan calmly.
Health
A bit more reassuring, but since you're going through some confusion, pay attention to what you're doing. Distraction can lead to all kinds of accidents.
Spirituality
As with the upright, keep the best attitude you can whatever happens. Count your blessings and don't take things personally, because they aren't.
