The Hermit
- Arcana
- Major
- Number
- 9
The Hermit is the number 9: introspection, chosen solitude, and the search for truth turned inward. He steps away from the noise to hear his inner guidance and reach a wisdom that only comes with time and reflection. When he appears, he asks for a pause before you decide.

The Hermit represents soul-searching, the contemplative life, and solitude as a form of self-knowledge. It's a deeply spiritual card: it marks a turn inward, an awareness that truth lives in the emotional and spiritual rather than in material rewards. It's a time to withdraw a little, even while surrounded by people, and to honor the wisdom you carry within and may not yet have noticed. The answers are there, not in the worldly noise. If it appears as an outcome, it will be a good one, though slow: you'll need patience and a careful look at everything.
- Love
- An old love may resurface, but relationships don't seem to be your priority right now; the wish to be alone takes over. In a partnership, you need space and time to realign your values and feelings, without that meaning a final breakup.
- Work
- A turning inward; the social side takes a back seat. It's not the time to change jobs, but it is the time to deepen your studies, train, and specialize. Do the right thing even when no one's watching: the recognition will come.
- Money
- A time to be conservative. Money isn't your priority, and it's best to avoid risks and gambles. There's financial balance, with no real hardship and no great windfalls.
- Health
- It often depicts an older person, so it suggests caution and care. It's worth viewing any ailment through its spiritual counterpart: the body tends to express what the inner self is carrying.
- Spirituality
- A mentor or teacher may enter your life, someone you'll learn from on several levels. Honor your need to withdraw from the ordinary; it won't be forever, and you'll come back renewed.
The Hermit reversed speaks of isolation and withdrawal, and can mean two opposite things. Perhaps you're so absorbed in the real world, in work, money, and daily life, that you've neglected your inner self and need a pause to find your way back. Or, on the contrary, you've sunk into a loneliness so deep that it's become harmful to you and to those around you. In the first case, slow down and savor life; in the second, reconnect with the world and with the people close to you who offer love and support.
- Love
- A fairly negative card here: it can symbolize breakups caused by a lack or impossibility of dialogue. If you're single, it's hard to find a partner while living like a hermit; you need to reconnect and empathize with others.
- Work
- You can get to the bottom of matters that were worrying you; don't hesitate to ask questions. Your solitary, introspective streak may not help the group: you're scattered and need to refocus and keep learning.
- Money
- A good time to seek advice and understand how your finances work. Otherwise, money is going through a rough patch: don't take risks, don't borrow, hold off on unnecessary spending, and stop the bleeding.
- Health
- Look after your mind, your memory, and your mental exercise. Since you're scattered and distracted, pay attention to avoid careless little accidents that could easily be prevented.
- Spirituality
- You may have been too much "on your own." Private contemplation matters, but so does communion with kindred spirits. Try to reconnect: some people will be glad you reached out.
